Do you want to launch your guided selling app in another country and/or language? You can easily arrange this in Aiden. First, create a finalized version of the app in one language, so that you can then duplicate and localize it.

The steps in short:

  1. Duplicate your existing app

  2. Translate the duplicated app

  3. Replace the catalog with the local version

  4. Embed the app in your online store

Step 1: Duplicate your existing app

Duplicate the app that you want to translate and/or make available in another country.

Step 2: Translate your app

Go to the duplicated app and change the name to distinguish it from the other app(s). A handy tip is to add the country or language abbreviation in the name, such as “Headphones UK”.

Download the texts of this app. This is a CSV file that contains all the questions, answers, and other texts of your app. You can then translate this file all at once using the translation software of your choice.

After translating the CSV, you can upload it back into Aiden in the duplicated app. Click Translate and follow the steps.

You will receive feedback on how many translations have been applied and whether there are any issues, e.g., a field for which a translation is missing.

⚠️ Good to know:

Translation files are unique per guided selling app. The same file cannot be used to translate other apps.

Step 3: Replace the product catalog with the local version

Before updating the catalog, it's important to check a few things:

  • If you use import settings to filter products, ensure that the fields used are also in the new feed, or adjust the import rules after replacing your feed.

  • If you are placing the app on another domain name, such as .co.uk, .be, or .com/fr, ensure that the product URLs point to that locale. It's inconvenient if your visitor receives advice in English and is then redirected to the product page in French.

  • Do you use matching rules? Then it's useful to have the original product data also in the feed under the same fields — this way, the rules are preserved. If you also need the translated fields (e.g., because you use them as an additional field on the advice page), you can add them as an extra field in your catalog, for example, description and description_uk. An alternative is to update the matching rules based on the new catalog content after replacing the catalog.

Checked the above? Then replace the feed URL of your catalog, or upload a new CSV catalog.

💡 Do you use additional fields to show additional product information on the advice page? After replacing the catalog, check under Conversation > Advice > Product Content to ensure the correct fields are used in the translated app.

Check your app

Click through it a few times using Preview. Make sure to check any deviating flow paths to ensure all translations are set up correctly.

Step 4: Embed the app in your online store

Follow the same steps as always. Ensure that the app is only shown in the countries for which it is intended, e.g., by only displaying it on certain domain names and when the respective language is selected.
